I have quite the history with using psychedelics. I started as a young teenager. LSD, mescaline, mushrooms, and a host of other substances. And then later on, I added ketamine and MDMA to my spiritual explorations. My experiences with psychedelics really opened me up to a completely different way of viewing life and the world.
I was one of the lucky ones, I guess. I never had a bad experience. I always spent my time on sacred medicines in nature or at a Grateful Dead concert. I only experienced oneness and unconditional love from Source. I became completely telepathic at times and could read people’s minds.
Once I reached my 30s, I noticed my body was aching when I came off of these amazing spiritual journeys where I might sit by a river for 8 hours, or walk 10 miles, or just focus on the music and the rhythm of the heavens where there was only love.
For me, my experience underscores the importance of consciousness and the need for a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos.
Once I turned about 33 I really needed to stop taking these mind-opening substances. They shaped my life, and the path I ended up taking. I am really grateful for the time I spent embraced by the love of these sacred allies.
Then in the 1980s, I had to get major dental work. And my dentist offered me nitrous oxide. Of course, I said yes.
It was amazing what unfolded next. Lots of spirits started talking to me as fast as they could. They said since I stopped taking sacred medicines, they have not been able to talk to me as they wanted. Too much ego and ordinary reality life were in the way of being able to hear the beauty of such an amazing group of spirits speaking.
First, they said you realize that this was all an experiment. They said you can see the experiment is not working out well, and you understand what needs to happen. I replied that I did understand what needed to happen in the future. Of course, time had no meaning during my time with these spiritual allies.
What they shared with me next is something I think about every day. They told me when we have expanded levels of consciousness, especially using sacred medicines, we think we entered into a state of Reality. But what they said if anyone actually crossed the veil of Illusion into Reality, their thoughts would manifest instantly. They had no way to explain how quickly we would manifest any thought in less than a billionth of a second.
And who has the level of consciousness to enter into the level of Reality and not create chaos?
Of course, I understood this. How could one not?
So many of us do our spiritual practices with the assumption that we are getting close to a sense of Reality. Sometimes it is good to reflect on that we live in this gigantic universe filled with so many mysteries. And to even touch on one mystery is true grace.
This universe is always creating every minute. We think we have entered a new season, but the seasons have been actually changing every day. We can see as we watch that nature is changing all the time not just on the equinox and solstices.
The seasons of our life are also changing every day. Change is happening as we all are flowing in the river of life, and you can’t stop the flow of the river.
Our greatest lessons might now come from lying on the Earth every day and noticing what changes happen daily. What do you feel, what do you smell, can you see slight changes in the colors of the plant life around you? Do you notice certain birds migrating at unexpected times? Does the air quality change? And I am not talking about pollution, but yes, pollution does dull our senses. How do the waters where you live change constantly? Do you ever watch them resist or do they continue carrying on? And how do you notice changes in the sunlight over the coming days, weeks, and months?
When we can attune completely to Nature, we find our own rhythm in life again. And once we find our rhythm in life again there is nothing stopping us from dancing to the wonder of life. We are the river of life. And once we enter into that flow and dance with the changes that are occurring second by second orchestrated by our incredible universe, it brings us to a place of humbleness and leads us to wanting to know how to work with the magic of the universe. For the universe is manifesting amazing magic every day.
The idea that we are constantly evolving and changing, much like the seasons and the natural world, is a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of all things. It’s true that attuning to Nature and its ever-changing rhythms can help us find our own place in the grand tapestry of existence.
Embracing the magic of the universe and dancing with its changes is a beautiful way to approach life with humility and wonder. May your continued journey be filled with exploration, growth, and a deeper connection to the mysteries of existence.
On a fun note, my husband and I saw a “rare bird” at our feeder. Woods took photos of it. But the photo was hard to capture. We needed to show that the bird had a blue head in order to verify that a Painted Bunting had become a temporary visitor at our home. It stayed around for about a week and then flew off hopefully to find its friends.
The bird store in town wanted to allow people to come to our house and camp out to try and get a sighting of the exquisite bird. Well, we were not going to allow this. But my husband Woods got a mention in our local newspaper:
Painted Bunting
A UFO was spotted at a feeder on Old Santa Fe Trail August 14! The gorgeous bird had a jaw-dropping rainbow of colors – a brilliant blue head, green body and red rump and belly. Yes, a Painted Bunting, a relatively rare visitor to Santa Fe. They are common in the South-Central U.S and in the coastal southeast where I spotted my first Painted Bunting 27 years ago. You will never forget the place and date when you spotted your first Painted Bunting! The New Mexico population is limited to scattered riparian and desert shrub locations in the south and east. What a rare treat to see one in Santa Fe!
The full moon is October 28. Let’s gather our sacred and spiritual energies together in a universal ball of light filled with the brilliance of Source and the power of the universe. Let our brilliant inner light dance with the light of life filling all with a sense of being held in unconditional love.

The One Year Shamanic Healing Practitioner Training will take place at the Chi Center beginning in April 2024. We will be sending out an announcement with the details mid October so stay tuned! I am so excited. I never unpacked my supplies from the last workshop I taught in person, so I am ready to go.
I am delighted to let everyone know Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner’s Guide is out in Korean.
When I updated my app Transmutation to Healing Your Thoughts, I always knew it would only work for a limited time on some phones. And I shared this information at the time. With how fast phones are updating app creators have to keep updating apps. This was never a business for me. The app costs 1.99 for a lifetime, and I have put in over $40,000 creating these two apps.
This is all to say I just found out that as of last August 31 the app will no longer be available to be installed on devices with an Android version higher than version 6. The app will disappear from the App Store from anybody who uses a phone with Android higher than 6.
I am keeping my usual announcements out of this month’s column due to not wanting to take up too much space.
